MARTINE BILLETTE

A composer, dancer and pianist from a prominent Québécois musical family, Martine Billette has been at the cutting edge of traditional music in Canada since the 1990s. One of the most respected professional Quebec dancers, Martine performed for years with Montreal trio, Rapetipetam; Pierre Chartrand, Marie-Soleil Pilette, Gilles Roy and The Stepping Ambassadors.

Over her career, Martine has toured the USA, Canada, England, Japan and France with French Canadian masters including Andre Brunet, Ménage à Trois, Manigance and The Pierre Schryer Band, all representing the rich traditional music that Canada has to offer.

KATE BEVAN-BAKER, PhD

Multi-talented Newfoundland-born Kate Bevan-Baker is a recognized fiddler, classical violinist and singer who thrives on a variety of musical styles from Celtic to jazz and classical. 

Her music has taken her to Russia, across Canada twice with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, to China for the 2010 World Expo representing Canada, the Canadian JUNO Awards performing with Michael Bublé, as well as playing with symphony orchestras and chamber groups across Canada.  Kate lives in Montreal where she teaches in School of Irish Studies at Concordia University and balances an active performance and teaching schedule.

GEARÓID Ó hALLMHURÁIN, PhD

Gearóid Ó hAllmhuráin is a fifth-generation concertina player and an uilleann piper from County Clare, Ireland’s ‘mecca’ of traditional music. A former member of the world famous Kilfenora Céilí Band, he has performed over 1,000 concerts on four continents.

In his spare time, filmmaker, author, cultural historian Dr ÓhAllmhuráin is the Principal of the School of Irish Studies at Concordia University in Montréal, Québec, the largest program of Irish studies in North America, with over 1,000 students.

A multi-All Ireland musician, Gearóid is the writer / director of the film Lost Children of the Carricks (© 2020, Celtic Crossings Productions) and the author of Flowing Tides: History and Memory in an Irish Soundscape (2016, Oxford University Press)
