About Celtic Crossings
Celtic Crossings was founded in March 1995 as an independent music agency producing and promoting performances of Irish traditional music in Northern California. With the 150th anniversary of the Irish Great Famine (1845-48) approaching, the veil of silence was finally being lifted. Americans of Irish heritage were now anxious to understand their cultural inheritance. In commemoration, our first Irish History program began as a series of Great Famine and Diaspora lectures for university and community audiences from coast to coast.
Celtic Crossings evolved to include music event planning, educational outreach for schools and community groups, recording projects, media consultations and much more. Our critically acclaimed debut recording, entitled Traditional Music from Clare and Beyond (Gearóid Ó hAllmhuráin, 1996) was at the forefront of an emerging independent recording industry. Distinctive for the twenty page historical notes enclosed, it has been sold on nearly every continent and has been hailed "as one of the best concertina recordings of all time." (Irish Voice, NY)
